Children's Concerns

The Young And Nature

More than two thousand children demonstrated in Curitiba, Brazil, asking for an opportunity for a better future for the planet.
They wish to call the attention to those in the 8th Conference of the United Nations about Biological Diversity, to the urgent need to protect the forests and the oceans.
" If we don't change now, it is more than likely that the process of destruction will be so terrible that we'll compromise the future of the unborn generations."...."We don't have that right."
" Don't allow the green blood that runs in your hearts to die. It irrigates your dreams and your most inner feelings for a better world"
For the Greenpeace, the future of biodiversity is intimately connected to a global net of protected areas and habitats.

Education...

This post is adapted from an interview given by Antti Kalliomaki, Minister of Education and Science from Finland.
According to him, their system of education promotes equality between students regardless their social or economic background. School is free for all, and the local councils have the obligation to guarantee excellent conditions at school that promote quality of teaching as well as learning.
Students in primary school don't spend more than four hours at school, however, they have the possibility to choose, for free, from a wide range of extracurricular activities, either in the morning or in the afternoon.
School in Finland has got the role to offer children and teenagers the instruments to enjoy a rich cultural life, no matter their background.
The Minister also said that differentiation in education leads to exclusion, so they promote and keep values which favour community life and acceptance of differences and that are supposed to encourage their younger citizens to a more active citizenship.
In Finland, they believe that an investment in education is the right attitude to drive the country's economy into success and prosperity.
I wonder why we only copy the bad things....?

School's Back...

Tomorrow, students are going to meet their teachers.
Some will be friendly, well known faces....many others will be kind of "strangers".
Together... we will try to make their lives better, great new experiences are expecting them all, as long as they take them.
School is an institution that educates...with hard work and sometimes we have what I call " funny learning".
Tomorrow, I'll be waiting for you...
School's back...

11 September

New York...
Early morning...
A new day begins, however, this one is going to be remembered ... always.
Terrorist pilots destroy the Twin Towers-World Trade Center.
The images are broadcasted live and the world watches the role of events in shock.
The tragedy caused 2749 deaths.
Only 20 people have been taken alive from the collapsed towers.
That's why we must always remember, and fight against terrorism. All kinds of terrorism.
That's why we must fight to ensure a more peaceful and tolerant world.

Half a Century...

Today it's 50 years since RTP ( television) has started its first experimental broadcasts in Portugal.
It's hard to image those first days.
RTP has always tried to offer the portuguese a good information service as well as entertainment.
Congratulations!...
