women...

Women have always been fundamental in any society.
However, in the past, they have always had their rights denied. From a distant, authoritative image of a father, to the husband that controlled their lives and fates, they had to fight for their rights in the family and in the society.
Today, women are granted ,by the Constitution, the same rights as men.
Nevertheless, they still have a long way to go to achieve an equal status. Motherhood and family are usually the most common arguments used to justify their absence in some professional areas.
As a woman, as a mother and with a career I understand how difficult it is to make choices. I believe that the future generations will certainly have a more dominant influence in a world traditionally dominated by men. Let's see some numbers in Portugal: 65,9% of women have a diploma from a university compared to 34,1% of men in the same period, that is 2004. There are other numbers to add but this is only an example suggesting that women have a great value, are quite intelligent and they are no longer afraid to show how beautiful and sexy they can be as well.
Women are now controlling their own lives and they are making their own choices, too. They are trying to destroy barriers at work and they are becoming leaders.
They are no longer willing to depend economically on others, they are assuming their ambition and they're not feeling guilty or ashamed.
Women can reach the top...as long as they wish to get there!...

Do Something...

Autumn has come and with it a lot of rain.
This is a time when nature's colours change, the sky is no longer bright and blue.
Time to plan the future, to dedicate ourselves to learning...to live!
It is a time to enjoy..., to listen to the sounds of wind in a rainy night.
It is still time to take action and do something worthwhile, such as helping International Amnesty save some women from an awful death, simply because they live in a society that denies them the right to make a choice, to live a different life.
You too can help!...
Sign their petition and try to save those poor women from being stoned to death.

Endangered Species...

Many animals and plants are on the verge of extinction.
By causing the species extinction with our modern lifestyle and disrespect for the environment, we are diminishing our own world too, and in an irreversible manner.
Extinction is forever, there's no coming back!
Research about some species that are in danger of extinction.
Write some facts about it, and publish your comments.
Use the Greenpeace site or any other.

CATS

CATS the musical of Andrew Lloyd Webber, is based on " Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" by T.S. Elliot.
It had its first performance at the New London Theatre on the 11th May 1981. Eight years later, in 1989, it celebrated its birthday and another important milestone; it had become, after 3358 performances, the longest running musical in the history of the British theatre.
Since then, it has always been on stage somewhere, always playing to packed houses, from New York to Sydney,Oslo, Paris, Moscow, Berlin ,Tokyo ,Vienna and many other places all over the world.
Right now,CATS, is once again in Portugal.
In an early poem, " The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" T.S. Elliot likened the yellow fog of St Louis to a cat

" That rubs its back upon the window-panes,
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes,
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap,
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the houses, and fell asleep..."
