Women have always been fundamental in any society.
However, in the past, they have always had their rights denied. From a distant, authoritative image of a father, to the husband that controlled their lives and fates, they had to fight for their rights in the family and in the society.
Today, women are granted ,by the Constitution, the same rights as men.
Nevertheless, they still have a long way to go to achieve an equal status. Motherhood and family are usually the most common arguments used to justify their absence in some professional areas.
As a woman, as a mother and with a career I understand how difficult it is to make choices. I believe that the future generations will certainly have a more dominant influence in a world traditionally dominated by men. Let's see some numbers in Portugal: 65,9% of women have a diploma from a university compared to 34,1% of men in the same period, that is 2004. There are other numbers to add but this is only an example suggesting that women have a great value, are quite intelligent and they are no longer afraid to show how beautiful and sexy they can be as well.
Women are now controlling their own lives and they are making their own choices, too. They are trying to destroy barriers at work and they are becoming leaders.
They are no longer willing to depend economically on others, they are assuming their ambition and they're not feeling guilty or ashamed.
Women can reach the top...as long as they wish to get there!...

We have to fight against all this prejudice!! It's important people give value to women, because we're intelligent, we work with professionalism! Women are so nice and... sexy ;)

YES, I THINK THAT NOWADAYS, WOMEN ARE MORE RESPECTED THEN IN THE PAST; HOWEVER, IT ISN’T HAPPENNING IN ALL COUNTRIES, IN ALL OVER THE WORLD.
TALIBAN WOMAN, FOR EXAMPLE, ARE FORBIDDEN TO WORK OUT OF HOME, (LIKE US TEACHERS, DOCTORS OR NURSES), ASSIST FOR MEN DOCTORS, AND THEY ARE FORBIDDEN TO FREQUENT SHOOLS OR UNIVERSITIES. THIS FACT IS INADMISSIBLE! WOMEN HAVE THE SAME RIGHS THAN MEN, SO, I THINK THAT “HUMAN BEINGS” HAVE TO STOP THEIR DESCRIMINATION TO WOMEN, BECAUSE THEY WORK IN THEIR JOB, AND WHEN THEY ARRIVE AT HOME, THEY WORK, TOO, IN THEIR HOUSEWORK…

Nowadays, woman have more rights that in the past and these rights was won with a lot of effort and suffering. In spite of this victory, there are many woman with some problems like descriminations of all types, domestic violence, etc.
Only, we can keep our fingers crossed all woman that are in bad situations.

I think that woman are still being discriminated, although we talk about less discrimination in the world, the true is that that is working.. but world isn't fair sometimes.. woman that in the past are only to cook and to do the household tasks, now i think that all the husbands help a bit her womans. I talk by myself.. I don't like to see unfair things. Women had souffer a entire life to be a little bit like man, i mean to have their rights, and men didn't "moved a bit" to be like we are. Woman are the best thing in this world and we might treat them good! :)
Nowadays the women already have more rights than in the past, however they still have a long way to have the same rights that men.
The discrimination against the women not violate only the basic rights and the respect for the dignity of the women, but hinders the women to contribute and to participate in the political, social, economic and cultural life, the national and international level, in identical conditions of the men. It constitutes an obstacle to the improvement and the progress of the society.
Unfortunately, still today impressive facts are register. In U.S.A., for example, in each twelve seconds a woman is attacked. . In Finland 22% of the women suffer from violence on the part of its husbands. In Portugal, per week, about six women, on average, they are victims of crime against the life, practised for men. In the world, the salaries of the women, on average, represent between 50% the 80% of the salaries of men.
All these facts still illustrate the present and only a change of mentality of the people and a change of attitude of the men can modify the role of the woman in the society. As the man, the woman has right to the freedom and social security, has right to the thought freedom, has right to the information and the education, has right to the politic participation and has right to fight for its dreams.
Woman! I'm proud of being one.
Since always women have to fight for what they want, believe. Women had to fight to have the same rights of men, to vote and to can think by our own heads and not to be an object that men can play with.
To be woman it's to have the responsibility of fight for what we want and to prove that we are so good (if not better) than men.
And I really hope that the other women who are not free yet, can be one day, just like Isabel said, because all we are aloud to do is to keep ours fingers cross, at least for now, because that type of societies don’t let us to do absolutely anything.
